Why the emphasis on parents? Research shows that children look to their parents more than anyone else for support as they grow up, and that the number one reason children give for not using drugs is their parents.
What are the benefits of participating? As a NC Parent Network participant, you will receive weekly email updates that include:
- Up to the minute prevention news
- Parent alerts
- Funding opportunities
- Information about best practices with parents
- Prevention resources, where to find free prevention materials, brochures, and pamphlets
- Ongoing community-based events, campaigns and projects to implement in your community.
- Other important information critical to preventing child and adolescent substance abuse.
You may participate in regular workshops, seminars, and conferences where you will be able to:
- Obtain current information about parent-centered prevention
- Hear presentations on contemporary issues
- Network with others who are working to increase parent involvement in prevention
- Develop and enhance your prevention skills as a volunteer or prevention professional
And, as a network participant, you may request consultation and technical assistance from the Parent Resource Center at Families in Action.
Who should participate? Any person or any agency/organization who is working to implement or expand parent-centered child and adolescent substance abuse prevention in North Carolina should participate. Current participants include… - Parent volunteers

How much does it cost to participate? Services of the NC Parent Resource Center and the NC Parent Network are provided to participants at no cost. There are no membership dues or fees. Participation in the NC Parent Network workshops, seminars, and conferences is encouraged and so there are some travel related costs to participating individuals and agencies.
Do I have to give up anything in order to participate? No. The NC Parent Network recognizes the diversity and autonomy of individual groups and organizations, and embraces a variety of methods and points of view for preventing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problems. Have a Question? Email us:
