The NC Parent Network is a statewide initiative that offers support and networking opportunities to the increasing number of volunteers and substance abuse prevention professionals who are working to help parents prevent their children from using alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. North Carolina is proud of the work that has been done over the years by parents, volunteers, grassroots advocates, and community coalitions to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by children and adolescents. Building on a solid foundation of parents as partners in prevention, North Carolina recognizes that services must be provided which build the capacity of diverse grassroots groups to carry out effective local solutions. The NC Parent Network provides structure for the sharing of information and ideas, and peer support for community groups who are working to effectively involve parents as partners in prevention.
The NC Parent Network is coordinated by the Parent Resource Center at Families in Action with funding provided through the Office of Prevention and Early Intervention of the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.
Founded in 1982, Families in Action is a non-profit substance abuse prevention organization whose mission is to support parents, schools, and communities in their effort to raise safe, healthy, and drug-free children. The mission of the Parent Resource Center at Families in Action is to promote and expand parent-centered prevention.
